9. The Talking Fish

As Grimblegrot sets off on the long walk back to the Professor's house, Curly and Boysie start to walk along the river.

"Not so fast!" Boysie calls out. "My feet were already getting sore when we were on the beach."

"Help! Can you help us?"

"I'm hearing voices again," says Curly.

"So am I," Boysie tells her.

As they look around them they hear the voice again. "I'm in the river."
Curly and Boysie look down and see a fish peering up at them. It appears to be talking.

The talking fish

"Are you a talking fish?" asks Curly. "Were you talking to us?"

The fish speaks. "I don't usually talk to people but we are all in danger. The river has turned salty and we need fresh water."

"Yes, we know," replies Curly. "Someone, or something, is pumping the sea into the river. We are trying to put a stop to it."

"We can't last much longer," says the fish. "Can't you do something now?"

As Curly and Boysie wonder what to do, they hear another voice: "I think someone needs my help."
